Recycle your contact lens waste with us!
Isn’t social media a great thing when it is used positively? 3 different patients contacted us on different platforms when they had seen Tuesday’s BBC News item about the new Acuvue contact lens recycling scheme.
They wondered if we were planning to be a drop off point for contact lens waste. Indeed we are! We have applied this week and have been accepted, so you will be able to drop off ANY BRAND of soft, disposable contact lenses, the blister and foil packaging. Old lenses can be turned into items including outdoor furniture or plastic lumber, a much better use of them than flushing them down the sink or toilet, when they may end up in the sea, which is what 20% of wearers do currently, apparently!
As an added bonus, we will earn charity points for each shipment, and we will be donating to Vision Aid Overseas. Our collection boxes will be in place next week, so start bringing your contact lens waste in whenever you are passing either of the practices.
